The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has added 37 new species to the host plant list of Xylella fastidiosa. A total of 595 species of trees and plants are now susceptible to the bacterial disease. Most of the new species have been found in France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, United States and Iran. According to EFSA, the plants had become infected with Xylella in a natural way. These include wild species, as well as species grown and traded such as Erigeron (picture), Helichrysum stoechas, Pistacia vera and Diospyros kaki. In 343 of the total 595 species of host plants, infection by at least two detection methods has been identified, under natural and experimental conditions. In the following list all the host plants have been mentioned in relation to the subspecies of Xylella.
